How to Assemble Diagonal Wall Cabinets - In 4 Easy Steps

Diagonal wall cabinets are the wall space equivalent of diagonal base cabinets. It’s hard to make use of 90-degree corners with just regular wall cabinets, so diagonal wall cabinets fix this problem. They offer maximum storage for the space and easy access to everything you need. To assemble this cabinet, you’ll need a few tools. A mallet, screwdriver, box cutter, and some glue will be the absolute minimum to get started. As always, remember to use your box as a protective surface to place your cabinets on and avoid scratches – and of course shop rta cabinets online as the first step of your renovation project.

Assembling the Cabinet Box

Begin by running a bead of glue down each dado in the face frame. This is most easily done with the face frame facing down on your work surface. Next, attached the angled brackets to your front side panels using screws at the pre-drilled hole towards the middle of the panel.

Once you have attached the brackets to the side panels, they can then be immediately attached to the face frame using the same screws. Attach two brackets to the bottom of your face frame with screws before setting the bottom panel into the dados on the face frame and the side panels and attaching it to the face frame brackets. Do the same for the top of the cabinet and set the top panel in place just as you did the bottom panel. Note that the painted or finished side will always face the outside of the cabinet.

Installing Back Panels and Shelves

Much like installing the front side panels, the back-side panels have dados that align with the top and bottom panels. These two panels, however, can be set in place BEFORE attaching the brackets on the outside of the cabinet.

Prior to installing the second back side panel, you must install your shelves and the center back panel. Place the shelf clips into the holes where you would like your shelves to sit and then slide the shelves into place so that they rest on top of the shelf clips. After installing your shelves, you can slide the center back panel into place using the dados on the back that will align with the top and bottom panels. Secure the center back panel into place by using brackets on the top and bottom panels on the outside of the cabinet. Once your center panel is locked in, you can install your other back side panel. Lastly, three one-inch screws must be used to secure your back side panels to the back-center panel at the pre-drilled hole locations on each of the back side panels.

Installing the Door

Insert the hinge cups into the holes on the door and secure them using the flat Phillip’s head screws provided. Next, attach the door to the face frame where the pre-drilled holes are located. Use the rounded Philips head screws for this portion. Your door should be firmly mounted in place once this step is complete.

Final Touches

Hardware can be attached to your door at any point in the process, but if you have not already done so, then it is a good idea to go ahead and attach your pulls or handles. Doing so before your cabinets are installed can save a lot of time having to reach for high wall cabinets. Don’t forget to add bumpers to the corners of your doors to protect your face frame from accidental slams.
